SPF, which means Sender Policy Framework, is an email protection system, that is designed to confirm whether an email message is sent by an official server. Using SPF protection for a given domain will prevent the faking of emails created with the domain. In simple words: enabling this feature for a domain name generates a specific record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which includes the IP of the servers that are allowed to send email messages from mailboxes using the domain. As soon as this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Whenever an e-mail message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through checks whether it originates from an approved server. In the event it does, it's forwarded to the destination address, however when it does not originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it is rejected. In this way nobody will be able to mask an e-mail address then make it appear as if you are e-mailing spam. This method is also referred to as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Cloud Hosting

When you host your domains in a cloud hosting account on our end and we handle the e-mail addresses for them, you are able to activate SPF protection for all of them with several clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. This service is accessible in a separate section where you will be able to see which domains are currently secured. For those that aren't, you will be able to activate the SPF protection solution and set up a number of things at the same time - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your addresses, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, as well as to create a rule that email messages can be sent only if your domains use our MX records. The aforementioned choice is the most secure one, and you can use it if we handle the e-mails for your domain names and you are not using some other e-mail supplier. The newly generated records will propagate within 1 day and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an email using your email addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you host your domains in a semi-dedicated server account from us, you will be able to use the SPF protection feature as a part of the standard group of services that you will get with this type of web hosting. Activating the protection will require only a few simple steps within the Hepsia Control Panel, so that even if you haven't employed this kind of feature before, you will not have any type of troubles. Employing a very easy to work with interface, you'll just have to insert the details of the mail server which will be permitted to send messages from your e-mail addresses - its hostname (mail.server.com) and IP address (IPv4 or IPv6). Once the newly made record propagates, no one will be able to fake any email address for that particular domain name and send e-mail messages from a server other than the one you've entered. This doesn't necessarily have to be our mail server, but in case we handle your emails, you'll be able to enable an extra level of security by choosing an option that emails can be send out from addresses @your-domain.com only if the domain uses our MX records. Our technical support team will be able to assist you 24/7 if you have any kind of questions regarding this service.
